Ralph S. Bovard, MD, MPH, FACSM
Chief Medical Officer & Director of Clinical Research
Dr. Ralph Bovard is the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Clinical Research for PERFECT fit Health. In this capacity, Dr. Bovard is responsible for clinical research, content development and medical oversight. Dr. Bovard previously worked in the Departments of Occupational Medicine and Orthopaedics at HealthPartners Specialty Center in St. Paul, MN from 2000-2009. He was the lead for primary care orthopaedics & sports medicine at HealthPartners during its expansion from 2005-2008. He held an appointment as assistant professor in the Dept. of Family Practice at the U. of Minnesota. He is a past president of the Northland Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine [ACSM], an ACSM Fellow, and served on the board of trustees of the ACSM from 2005-2008. He was a member of several ACSM committees including: Exercise Is Medicine (EIM) initiative, Ad Hoc Committee on Obesity, Professionals Against Doping in Sport (PADS), and the American Fitness Index (AFI). He has long been an advocate for patient responsibility in fitness and health.
Dr. Bovard’s medical degree is from the University of Minnesota and he is boarded in preventive medicine from the University of Arizona with a focus in sports medicine. He has served as faculty for the ACSM international team physician course and lectures regularly for healthy lifestyles and wellness. He has been a team physician for US Figure Skating, US Swimming, and/or Alpine Skiing since 1992 and was co-medical director for the US Figure Skating National Championships held in Minnesota in 2008. He has served as a missionary doctor in Papua New Guinea 1986-7, was an Everest expedition physician in 1989, worked as a ski clinic MD at Aspen/Snowmass (Colorado) 1990-93, a set physician for the film The River Wild, and served as a base doctor for the National Science Foundation (NSF) at Palmer Station in Antarctica 1996-7.
Dr. Bovard is an active masters swimmer and Nordic skier. He is also the Chief Medical Officer and on the Board of Directors of the Exos Corporation, a medical company specializing in musculoskeletal stabilization systems.
